The Tickins Furlani Story

1930

Connie’s great-grandpa, John Tickins, opens “Tickins Fruit & Groceries” in the Junction

Great Grandpa John Tickins immigrated from Ukraine and opened his grocery store in the Junction neighbourhood, laying down roots for his family in Canada and West Toronto. He was a hard worker throughout his life.

1963

Antonie’s dad, Nadio Furlani, immigrates from Italy and starts working as a butcher in Toronto’s East end

Every morning, Nadio would appreciatively shout “Good Morning, Canada!” from his backdoor. Today, those words are emblazoned on his tombstone.

1960s

Linda’s lived and worked in Toronto’s west end all her life, which has given her very fond memories.

She remembers when there was a Bloor-Jane streetcar terminal. And she remembers Steinberg’s Grocery, skating at Central Arena and tobogganing at Humber Valley Park. This is a community where traditions provide comfort to homeowners and businesses alike: many who, like Linda, have stayed for years.

1979

Connie’s parents, Rod & Linda, get married

Rod & Linda were high school sweethearts who grew up and live in Etobicoke to this day, maintaining her family’s strong roots in West Toronto.

1980

Antonie’s parents, Nadio & Nancy, meet in Miami

They marry, and Nancy moves to Canada from the Dominican Republic. For the ensuing decades, they ran food production businesses together out of Etobicoke.

1980s

Linda & The Max Ward School of Customer Service

Linda has been promoting home ownership in this city for almost 35 years. Prior to that she was a flight attendant with Wardair Canada. For those who are familiar she need only say the words “steak and champagne.” For those who are not…Google it!

Even today, Wardair Canada remains a textbook example of superior customer service, just as Linda remains committed to providing superior customer service to her clients, and to her community. It’s fundamental.

2012

Connie graduates & joins the family business

Connie graduates with a BA in Journalism from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, where she had the privilege of receiving a Division 1 golf scholarship.

Upon graduation, she starts her career in real estate under the life-long mentorship of her mother, Linda, who at this point, is a seasoned broker with over 35 years of experience in Toronto real estate.

2014

Antonie graduates & gets to business

Antonie graduates with a BA Honors in Business Administration (HBA) and a BA (Honors) in Economics from the Ivey Business School and Western University. Prior to this he attended Wilfred Laurier University where he was a member of the football team.

Upon graduation, Antonie worked in Business Valuations at Deloitte Canada, followed by working on the Origination team of DIF Capital Partners, an independent fund manager specializing in Infrastructure.

2020

Antonie enters real estate

Antonie makes the move from finance to real estate. Connie worked in the family business for 8 years at this point, and Antonie’s strong business background was the perfect addition to the growing brokerage.

And boy was it great timing with the crazy couple years ahead!  He was able to gain a tremendous amount of experience and knowledge during this extremely busy period in Toronto real estate. He was a major asset in growing the team to top 15 in the City of Toronto in 2021.

*Top 15 by sales volume in 2021 according to IMS Inc.
